Cassady was born in Florence on September 25th, 1991. She moved to the Beach when she was 8 years old, and quickly made some great friends at Lakewood. As the years went on, she got involved in more and more activities, and made more and more friends.
Cassady was comfortable in almost any setting, and disliked cliques. Her friendships transcended all social boundaries, and we never knew who she was going to bring over to the house. Her social life was one of the things she cherished the most. She really loved all of her friends and hated to be alone. We used to tease her about this all of the time.
If you didn't know Cassady, you really missed out. She was one of the most loving, caring, and loyal friends anyone could ever hope for. She would stick by you through anything. But she was shy around new people, and she always believed that people thought she was being stuck-up because of this, which really used to upset her. Even if you weren't lucky enough to be in her group of friends, you more than likely knew of her. She seemed to be everywhere all of the time. If there was something going on, she was probably involved in it. She was President of DECA here at Socastee, and Vice President for the state. She took mostly honors classes because she loved the extra work. She looked forward to the new challenges each year. She was an avid concert-goer and loved music. She was always happy to find a new band and share it with her friends. She was on the soccer team since 7th grade, and a cheerleader since 9th.
Not many people know this, but the real reason she became a cheerleader was because someone in 8th grade told her she wouldn't make it if she tried out! That was Cassady. If there was a challenge, she was up for it. She never accepted the status quo. If there was a way to upset the balance, she would find it. She had her lip pierced because she loved to see people's reaction to it. She looked forward to heated discussions and debates, and was not afraid to stand up for the little guy or take the unpopular view because it was what she believed was right. She always stuck to her beliefs, and would argue her point until you realized that you weren't going to win! Because of this, she could come off as argumentative and confrontational, but really it was passion. She loved to argue. And talk. The people who really knew Cassady, though, will tell you that she was also a good listener. She always put the feelings of others before her own. She was sensitive and caring and loyal. She had a way of making you feel better just by having her listen to your problems. She loved her mom and dad to no end, but the real apple of her eye was her little sister, Edisto (Eddi). Even though there was 12 years between them, they were close. Cass was Eddi's hero. She always wanted to do everything that her big sister did, and seeing Eddi always brought the biggest smiles to Cassady's face.
Cassady had talked about getting a tattoo for years, but didn't know what she wanted to have on her body for the rest of her life. Then she decided that she would get "C'est la Vie" while she was in France. "C'est la vie" is French for "That's Life." She felt this was somewhat of her life motto. Things happen that you can't control. That's just the way it is. She realized that she was spending too much time and energy trying to control the uncontrollable things in her life. She used this tattoo as a reminder to herself to take a step back and control those things that you can control, and make the best of those things that you can't. She would want you to do the same thing. She is no longer with us and we will miss her greatly. She was loved by many many people. She would want people to celebrate her life, and make the most of a bad situation. Celebrate Cassady. Use your memories of her to get you through the tough times. Tell stories about your times together and laugh uncontrollably with each other. Use her spirit and determination to help you reach your goals. Maybe take the tougher or unpopular path once in a while. Keep her in your thoughts and remember the good times you had with her. Celebrate Cassady.
