Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) helps measure developed abilities as well as predict future academic and occupational success. Although it is administered by the United States Military taking this exam does not require a participant to enlist in military services. This is a great opportunity for students who are undecided about their careers to explore options based on a valid measure. Even if you are not interested at all in military service, this is a great opportunity for you.
The test is given in the fall and students must register in advance. You must be at least 16 years old on the day of the test. Please see your school counselor for more information.
It is also advised that you utilize the ASVAB preparation websites to give you an idea of what to expect on test day. You can prepare for the ASVAB by clicking on the links below.

End-of-Course (EOC) Exams
The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program of end-of-course tests for gateway courses awarded units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The EOCEP encourages instruction in the specific standards for the courses, encourages student achievement, and documents the level of students’ mastery of the academic standards. Gateway courses in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies will be defined by the State Board of Education. EOCEP examination scores count 10 percent in the calculation of the student’s final grade in gateway courses. Defined gateway courses currently include Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Biology 1, English 2, and United States History and the Constitution, or courses with other names and activity codes in which the academic standards corresponding to these subjects are taught.
To meet federal accountability requirements, the EOCEP in English/language arts, mathematics, and science must be administered to all public-school students, including those students as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) and by Title 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
To receive a South Carolina high school diploma, students are required to pass a high school credit course in science, and a high school credit course in United States history in which the state’s end of course examinations are administered. Currently, these courses are Biology 1 (science) and United States History and the Constitution (social studies).
Test dates for each semester are posted on the main webpage, the SHS Web Calendar, and under the Academics section of the webpage. Specific times and locations for each test are announced closer to each test's date. Any questions should be directed to your specific subject's teacher.

If you are planning on going to a technical college after high school please note that HGTC will accept ACT/SAT scores but they also have a placement exam called the Accuplacer. You may read more information about that exam at https://www.hgtc.edu/admissions/testing_center/accuplacer.html
