Good afternoon, Parents/Guardians and Students,

I hope this email finds you well. As you are aware, we will operate on a distance learning schedule on Friday, January 24,  2025, due to the lasting effects of the winter storm.

• On Friday, January 24, 2025, all Horry County Schools’ (HCS) facilities will be closed due to the lasting effects of the winter storm. However, HCS will operate on Friday with an eLearning day for all students. School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Friday’s eLearning day. Additionally, all after-school activities for Friday, January 24, 2025, are canceled. Athletic directors are working to reschedule games if possible for another date.  
• For updates, please monitor the HCS website or visit HCS on Facebook and Twitter.
• From the office of attendance: Friday, January 24th will be an eLearning day for all HCS students. Students may access Google meets from any electronic device, such as an HCS device, tablet, or phone in order to complete their work, or paper packets of assignments may be provided. Students may also make up the work upon returning to in person sessions. Students that attend their Google meets, complete work packets, or make up Friday’s work should be coded as SC-VTP, the virtual present code. Students have 5 school days to complete the make-up work. Any student that does not complete the work by Thursday, January 30, 2025, will be coded as SC-UNEX.

Below, you will find the schedule for our E-Learning Day tomorrow. We expect the students to login into their Schoology accounts for every one of their classes and join the Google Meets held by each of their teachers during the Google Meet times as noted on the schedule below. Attendance will be awarded by work completion and not just by being on the Google Meet.  We understand that some people may lose power, including staff members.  That is why students have five days to complete the work for attendance.

• On Thursday, January 23, 2025, all Horry County Schools’ (HCS) facilities will be closed due to the inclement weather that occurred with last night’s winter storm. However, HCS will operate on Thursday with an eLearning day for all students. School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Thursday’s eLearning day. Additionally, all after-school activities for Thursday, January 23, 2025, are canceled. Athletic directors are working to reschedule games if possible for another date.

Good afternoon, Braves,

I hope this message finds you well. I want to inform you that Wednesday, January 22, 2025, has been designated as an eLearning day for all schools. This is particularly significant as it marks the first day of our second semester. I have instructed all teachers to email their students with Schoology information so they can access their classes tomorrow. Students will have five days to complete any assignments provided by their teachers during eLearning. All work must be submitted by Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and this will also count toward their attendance. Teachers may choose to hold Google Meet sessions with their students tomorrow, and they will include the meeting times in their emails.

As we start the second semester, please be aware that the new cell phone policy will take effect. We will conduct class meetings with our students upon our return from the inclement weather day. Students can either keep their cell phones in their backpacks or place them in the designated cell phone holders installed in each classroom. When the bell rings at 8:25 AM, all phones must be put away, and students will not be able to use their phones until the 3:15 PM bell rings. I encourage all students and parents to communicate through email.

In case of an emergency, please call the school, and we will ensure that the information reaches your student or arrange for them to come to the office to speak with you. Students are permitted to wear smartwatches; however, if they are seen using the smartwatch for anything other than checking the time, it will be considered a cell phone violation.

Espero que este mensaje los encuentre bien. Quiero informarles que el miércoles 22 de enero de 2025 ha sido designado como un día de aprendizaje electrónico para todas las escuelas. Esto es particularmente significativo ya que marca el primer día de nuestro segundo semestre. He dado instrucciones a todos los maestros para que envíen un correo electrónico a sus estudiantes con información de Schoology para que puedan acceder a sus clases mañana. Los estudiantes tendrán cinco días para completar cualquier tarea proporcionada por sus maestros durante el aprendizaje electrónico. Todo el trabajo debe entregarse antes del martes 28 de enero de 2025, y esto también contará para su asistencia. Los maestros pueden optar por realizar sesiones de Google Meet con sus estudiantes mañana e incluirán los horarios de las reuniones en sus correos electrónicos.

This is particularly notable as it marks the first day of our second semester. I have instructed all teachers to send their students the necessary Schoology information via email, enabling them to access their classes tomorrow. Students will have five days to complete any assignments provided by their teachers during this eLearning period. Please ensure that all work is submitted by Tuesday, January 28, 2025, as this will also be counted for attendance. Teachers may choose to hold Google Meet sessions with their students, and they will include the times in their emails.

As we embark on the second semester, I want to remind you that the new cell phone policy will be in effect. We will be conducting class meetings with our students upon returning from the recent inclement weather day. Students may either keep their cell phones in their backpacks or place them in the designated cell phone holders installed in each classroom. All phones must be put away when the 8:25 AM bell rings and cannot be used until the 3:15 PM bell. I encourage ongoing communication between students and parents through email.

In case of an emergency, please call the school, and we will ensure that your message reaches your student or arrange for them to come to the office to speak with you. While students are permitted to wear smart watches, please note that if they are observed using their smart watch for purposes other than checking the time, it will be treated as a cell phone violation.

However, HCS will operate on Tuesday with an eLearning day for all students.  School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Tuesday’s eLearning day. Additionally, all after-school activities for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, are canceled. Athletic directors are working to reschedule games for Wednesday, January 10, 2024.  

• For updates, please monitor the HCS website or visit HCS on Facebook and Twitter.
• From the office of attendance. Tuesday, January 9, 2024, will be an eLearning day for all HCS students.  Students may access Google meets from any electronic device, such as an HCS device, tablet, or phone in order to complete their work or paper packets of assignments may be provided.
